Adaptations for Age Level

Not all blogging assignments are the same and certainly not all formats will work for every child. Below are some basic ideas make blogging more suitable for two levels of students based on their age group.

Primary Grades:

• The most important goal is to get students to write
• It is ok to use invented spelling in the primary grades
• Use of phonics for reading and spelling
• Teachers should use word banks for common vocabulary that students will be using
• Avoid keyboarding technique "rules", let students develop their own at this level
• Use a lot of pictures to help students think
• Flash cards for mathematics
• Telling time on a traditional clock

Secondary Grades:

• Require list of cited sources
• Follow copyright laws
• Encourage hyperlinks for vocabulary words
• More group projects
• Use of portfolios
